BM140 HP 0/100 Handley Page "0" Series Bomber

BM140 HP 0/100 Handley Page "0" Series Bomber

The Handley Page "O" series bombers were originally built to an Admiralty request for a large aircraft for long-range bombing. They were nicknamed the "Bloody Paralyser" and became the first bombers to carry out night attacks on Germany. The 0/100 entered service on the Western Front in 1916 and the the 0/400 not until spring of 1917. The 0/100's were first used for daylight maritime patrols and later almost exclusively for night bombing raids against U-boat bases, rail centres and Gotha aerodromes. By the end of 1917 the R.N.A.S. had four squadrons of 0/100's. A total of 46 0/100's were built. The 0/400 differed from the 0/100 in having more powerful engines. A total of 507 being built during the war. Seven bomber squadrons operated 0/400's, the R.A.F. having 258 in service at the end of the war. The aircraft continued in service into the 1920's.

BM142 Felixstowe F.2a (1917) Long Range Flying Boat (kit made of resin and metal parts)

Developed from the American Curtiss flying boats, the Felixstowe F.2a was operated by the R.N.A.S. from late 1917 until the end of the war, in long range anti-submarine and anti-Zeppelin patrols over the North Sea. Not only did they prove very successful in this role, but their robust construction, manoeuvrability and numerous machine guns, made them more than a match for the German seaplanes. That was until the arrival of the Hansa-Brandenburg W.29 in 1918. Aircraft were allocated to R.N.A.S. coastal air stations at Calshot, Dundee, Felixstowe, Great Yarmouth, Killingholme, Scarpa Flow & Tresco.
